Science Camp FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When is the Science Camp, and where will it be held? A: The Science Camp is scheduled from May 21-24, 2024, and will take place at the Exploring New Horizons Outdoor School at Sempervirens.

Q: Why is Science Camp important for 5th graders? A: The Science Camp is a vital part of our 5th-grade curriculum, providing an unforgettable hands-on learning experience. It enhances academic understanding and cultivates essential life skills like teamwork, self-esteem, and social responsibility.

Q: What activities will students engage in during Science Camp? A: Students will explore the Oak and Redwood Forests, as well as ocean tide pools, fostering a practical and experiential approach to science education.

Q: What does the fair share amount of $432 cover? A: The fair share amount covers lodging, food, transportation to tide pools, counseling, guidance from “tour guides” (naturalists), and a lifetime of memories. Notably, PPIE is covering the cost of buses, saving each student $50!

Q: When is the deadline to pay the fair share amount? A: The fair share amount of $432 must be paid in full by September 9, 2023.

Q: What if I face financial hardship in paying the fair share amount? A: If financial constraints prevent payment, please contact our PFC treasurer at treasurer@lydiksenpfc.org for assistance.

Q: Is there a risk of Science Camp being canceled? A: Unfortunately, there is a yearly challenge due to potential funding shortfalls. If we do not collect enough funds for every interested 5th grader, the trip may be canceled, and payments will be refunded.

Q: How can parents contribute to ensuring the success of Science Camp? A: Your support is crucial! Paying the fair share amount on time and encouraging others to do the same will help make Science Camp a transformative experience for all 5th-grade students.

If any kid has the opportunity to go to camp, they should definitely go, because it builds strong friendships and great memories.
